Expanding a vibrant, mixed-use district westward for a new urban neighborhood destination
Astor Park was conceived in tandem with the master planning of Scotts Miracle-Gro Field, home of the Columbus Crew—a relationship fundamental to the neighborhood’s identity. From the outset, the development was designed to dissolve the typical barriers between stadiums and the public realm, creating a seamless transition between game-day energy and everyday urban life.
In close collaboration with the Pizzuti Companies, MKSK shaped a network of plazas, promenades, tree-lined streets, and art-infused spaces that serve both the stadium and the surrounding community. These flexible public spaces welcome large crowds during major events yet function as inviting and comfortable environments throughout the week. This dual-use design approach strengthens the connection between stadium events and neighborhood life, setting the tone for a vibrant, integrated district where the stadium and neighborhood elevate one another.
In all, the neighborhood brings together a balanced mix of office space, ground-floor retail, art covered parking and approximately 440 multifamily residences, creating the density essential for a lively, year-round neighborhood. With direct access to a new two-acre riverfront park, a kayak launch, and a pedestrian bridge linking to the city’s largest trail network, the community places nature, wellness, and outdoor activity at its heart. Extending the Arena District’s legacy of dynamic public spaces while introducing an entirely new downtown living experience, Astor Park represents a significant expansion of the city’s urban fabric.
MKSK has provided urban design and landscape architecture for the entire district, infrastructure, office, building plaza, multi-family residential landscape, and amenities.
