A new multi-use community complex for West Louisville celebrates athletics, education, and activism.

MKSK worked with the Louisville Urban League to plan, design, and deliver a valuable community resource for the West Louisville neighborhoods, serving as a hub for community engagement, recreation, and education. MKSK designed a multi-layered branded environmental approach to maintain the project vision and site ownership. Meaningful branded environmental graphics includes exterior and interior wayfinding, donor and sponsorship recognition, interior and exterior cultural storytelling designs, and interpretive graphics, including a large-scale, cultural storytelling mural installation that wraps the building’s 360-foot exterior, street-facing wall.

MKSK’s Environmental Graphics Studio created a design system to recognize project partners while maintaining a consistent branded environment utilizing large wall graphics, inspirational messaging, and significant quotes from civil rights leaders, athletes, and activists.

The signage system enhances the facility space through consistent design elements to improve wayfinding, facility designations, and to reinforce the five pillars of Jobs, Justice, Education, Health, and Housing that make up the Urban League’s mission.
