Striving to create places that hold meaning and foster a spirit of care for the local environment and community.

Darren Meyer is a Principal at MKSK and a landscape architect and urban planner. His work is locally derived, necessary for day-to-day living, and sensitive to beauty. Across all scales and types of projects, Darren strives to create places that hold meaning and foster a spirit of care for the local environment and community.

With over $500 million in constructed work and a substantial breadth of well-received planning and design projects under his leadership, Darren has a relentless focus on professional practice. With an emphasis on the public realm, his portfolio includes effectual planned and built work across the capital cities, metropolitan areas, and major waterways of the central and eastern US.

Darren’s current work includes re-envisioning Gallery Square as the heart of public life in downtown Washington, DC, planning for 2,000 acres of greenspace as the southern anchor of the visionary 100-mile Chattahoochee Riverlands through the Atlanta metro area, and the Capital Line—a signature urban trail in the heart of Ohio’s capital city.

To strengthen the quality of his daily practice, Darren has engaged in professional pursuits that continue to push his work to the leading edge of the profession. Through speaking and panel dialogue at conferences, symposia, and podcasts; lecturing, teaching, and providing guest critiques at universities; pro bono and technical assistance engagements; service on local boards; outreach to local grade schools; and engagement with international thought leaders to strengthen MKSK’s knowledge base, Darren continues to be driven by a restless commitment to improving his craft.

Within MKSK, Darren has served as an architect of the firm’s transition to employee ownership, a seminal board member during the ESOP launch, a dedicated mentor of professionals under the firm’s mentorship program, a leader in strategic planning, and a strong advocate for the quality of the workplace environment and culture.
