An investment plan to activate and connect a downtown core to serve as a talent recruitment tool.
The City of Troy aims to be a place that people want to stay for a weekend, for the season, for a career, to grow up, and to retire. The region has an aging population and over 12,000 skilled jobs that need new employees.
As the City planned a number of investments in its future, leaders recognized the unique opportunity to connect the dots and leverage these investments to build momentum in Downtown, its close-in neighborhoods, and along the Great Miami Riverfront. The City also recognized that they could use the opportunity to improve communication amongst stakeholders to build broad consensus and support for a shared vision.
Several community partners came together in late 2016 and engaged MKSK to develop the Troy Downtown Riverfront Strategic Development Plan which provides key physical and programmatic investment recommendations for the Downtown and riverfront for the next five to ten years.
The plan identified 5 key initiatives for the City to pursue to achieve this goal: 1. Tell its story better, 2. Increase the number of jobs and residents downtown, 3. Strengthen downtown connections to an active river and trail network, 4. leverage mobility as an economic development tool, 5. Create an accessible and user-friendly development toolkit.
